The Tiffin Girls' Music Society (TGMS) is a parent charity that exists uniquely to support the provision of music as a subject at the school. Working closely with the Music department, they help ensure a top-class musical education and an outstanding range of free co-curricular activities open to all.

Each year TGMS commit a £6,000 budget to help the department realise extra musical resources and facilities for the benefit of all students. They also write match-funded bids in support of the department’s longer term goals, which have transformed and enhanced the musical foundation of the school, with positive and far-reaching outcomes for all.

Their stretch goal for 2021/2022 is to continue enhancing the department’s recent music technology investment and expanding the overall musical space available to students.

How TGMS makes a difference

TGMS fundraising pays for items that make a real difference to the musical life of the school but cannot be covered by the department budget in these difficult financial times, including:
  • Vocal coaching and additional visiting music teaching
  • Masterclasses from visiting musicians and conductors
  • Recording sessions for Year 9 Battle of the Bands
  • Transport, chaperones and stewards for concerts, trips and ABRSM exams
  • Purchasing instruments – bassoon, tenor saxophones, glockenspiel and stand, triangle beaters
  • Annual piano tuning and guitar maintenance
  • Replacement piano benches and stools
  • Purchasing new music stands, storage racks and orchestra lights

Match-funded bids

Successful TGMS bids to the Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust have made possible:

  • 2020: Transformation of the department’s music technology provision with 21 MacMinis, five MacBook Pros and a 27 inch iMac running Sibelius, GarageBand and Logic Pro to support creative composition. Also the purchase of studio grade portable recording equipment including solid state recorder, stereo microphones, voice shields, cage and cables to record performances.
  • 2019: Refurbishment and re-voicing of the school’s 1973 Estonia grand piano, giving the department two working grand pianos to improve overall music making and teaching capacity.
  • 2018: Purchase of 24 brand new Yamaha Clavinovas digital pianos to expand music teaching, student performing opportunities and enhance the musical and arts experience of all students.
  • 2016: Purchase of a Yamaha C3X baby grand piano for use in concerts, recitals, classroom teaching and during ABRSM exams.

How you can help

TGMS’s successes are only possible with your support. By becoming a member, your financial contribution when joining will make a real difference to the range of musical opportunities open to your child. Anyone connected with The Tiffin Girls' School - parents, carers, grandparents, friends - can join TGMS. You don't have to have a child who plays an instrument or sings, and you certainly don't need to know anything about music yourself.

Simply complete the application form in the Key Links box to join TGMS for just £35 (Family) or £20 (Individual) per year. You will benefit from discounted concert tickets, with your membership fee going directly towards supporting all the activities provided by the Music department.

Other ways to help

As well as becoming a member, you can also support TGMS further by:

* Fundraising, payments and donations will be processed and administered by the National Funding Scheme (Charity No: 1149800), operating as DONATE. Texts will be charged at your standard network rate. For Terms & Conditions, see

You could also consider taking on a more active role by joining the committee. Joining the TGMS committee is a positive and rewarding experience, as well as a great way to meet other parents, while actively supporting the provision of music at our school. Kindly note that all committee members are required to comply with the school's DBS checking and safeguarding procedures.

With your support, we can continue to enhance the incredible musical opportunities for all students. Whatever you can do is greatly appreciated and contributes directly towards ensuring the continuity of music provision at The Tiffin Girls’ School. We look forward to welcoming you to TGMS.
