Rivermead officially declared open on Thursday 23 September 2021
The School was delighted to welcome The Worshipful the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Councillor Sushila Abraham and her consort, Dr Matthew Abraham, to open the Rivermead building officially on Thursday 23 September 2021.
Completed in 2020 shortly before the first lockdown, the building houses a design and technology suite, a drama and performing arts studio and three classrooms. Its official opening was the first time the school was able to welcome visitors in number to the building, although students have been using the space for the past 18 months. The Headteacher, Ian Keary, thanked the governors, parents, alumnae and charitable trusts whose generous donations made the building possible.
In her speech, the Mayor remarked on the well-deserved reputation the school has for academic excellence whilst the building demonstrates it also recognises the importance of dedicating space to practical education that promotes creative and innovative thinking as part of a rounded education. She commented on the important role the school plays in the community of Kingston in sharing its facilities with residents of the borough and looked forward to the completion of the sports hall and improved indoor sports facilities which will be benefitting students and residents alike. The Mayor then unveiled the plaque in grateful recognition of the generosity of the donors and declared the building officially open.
Guests were given a tour of the building and enjoyed two short drama pieces performed by Year 8 and Year 10 students in the drama studio, and viewed a display of work by our DT students.
