The Tiffin Girls' Music Society (TGMS) is a charity that was set up by parents to support music at The Tiffin Girls' School. We work closely with the Music department, supporting it to provide a top-class musical education and an outstanding range of free co-curricular activities open to all.

Our fundraising goals for 2019 are to:

  • Restore the 1979 Estonia Grand Piano in the hall to its former glory, replacing hammers, rollers and action as well as resurfacing the keys (approximate cost £3,000);
  • Buy a glockenspiel and other percussion instruments to widen opportunities for joining Percussion Ensemble (£2,500); and
  • Produce a professional recording of several of our ensembles in performance (£1,500).

You can find up-to-date information on recent and forthcoming musical events, including photos and videos, on the Music department web page.

How TGMS makes a difference

Our fundraising pays for items that cannot be covered by the Music department budget but make a real difference to the musical life of the school in difficult financial times.

In 2018 we were delighted to be able to contribute £7,500 towards the purchase of 24 new digital pianos to support charitable trust funding from Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust. Other items recently funded include:
  • financial funding towards a new grand piano
  • purchase of an oboe
  • string, brass and percussion coaching
  • piano, oboe, bassoon and percussion servicing and repairs
  • piano tuning
  • purchase of guitars and mini-amps
  • studio recording costs for the Year 9 ‘Battle of the Bands’ winners
  • composition software for use in lessons
  • sheet music and scores.

With your support, we can continue to enhance the incredible musical opportunities for students.

How does TGMS raise funds?

  • Through members’ annual subscriptions
  • We sell refreshments and cakes at school concerts, creating a sense of community
  • As a charity, we are able to raise funds through EasyFundraising – please register at and allow TGMS to earn money at no cost to you when you shop online
  • Through donations. Contributions of any size would be much appreciated to support our fundraising goals for 2019. If you would like to make a corporate or personal donation please contact our Treasurer. We can also claim Gift Aid on eligible personal donations.

What else does TGMS do?

  • We act as stewards for ABRSM exams held in school, allowing parents and students the convenience of taking exams on site
  • We support the Music staff by chaperoning students at external concerts and on trips

All stewards and chaperones comply with the school's DBS checking and safeguarding policies.

Joining TGMS

Anyone connected with The Tiffin Girls' School can join TGMS - parents, carers, grandparents, friends. You don't have to have a daughter who plays an instrument or sings and you certainly don't need to know anything about music yourself. All we need is your support.

The subscription is £35 a year for family membership and £20 a year for individual membership. This entitles you to significant reductions on school concert tickets. You also have the satisfaction of knowing that your financial contribution is making a real difference to the musical life of the school and the range of musical opportunities open to your daughter. You can download the membership form from the Key Downloads box.

As you fill in the form, think about whether you might also like to get involved in a practical way. This can be very sociable and is an excellent way to get to know other parents. You might want to help sell refreshments at concerts once a year or once a term. You might be able to come into school once or twice a year to help with stewarding the ABRSM exams. Or you might have the time to join our friendly committee. We meet approximately six times a year, and we are always looking for new members.

All committee members comply with the school's DBS checking and safeguarding policies.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Tiffin Girls’ Music Society.
